Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz's highly-anticipated Olympic pairing started with a first-round win over Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez in the men's doubles.

The Spanish duo beat the Argentine sixth seeds 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 in front of a packed Court Phillipe Chatrier in Paris.

Nadal was Alcaraz's childhood hero and the two have paired up in what is expected to be Nadal's final season on tour.

Team GB's Laura Collett goes top of the eventing leaderboard with an Olympic record score in the dressage on day one of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

British pair Ben Lane and Sean Vendy were beaten by Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik yesterday and are back in action at some point after 9:00 BST. They have got another tough match today to keep their qualification hopes alive, taking on top seeds Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang of China.

Harper has also been speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: It's pretty exciting and I can't say I'll be spending every birthday with an Olympic medal so it's pretty special!

Harper's diving partner, Scarlett Mew Jensen said: "I feel like I'm on a bit of overdrive at the moment. Yesterday was very intense and long but in the best way. We keep watching it on TV and stuff. I still can't believe it really. I think I found myself just grinning."

Scarlett Mew Jensen, the other half of the partnership who won Britain's first medal of Paris 2024, also spoke to BBC Breakfast this morning.

Mew Jensen, who took women's synchronised 3m springboard diving bronze with Yasmin Harper yesterday, made a remarkable comeback from a partial back fracture to compete in Paris.

"Three months ago I wasn’t even in the pool," she said, "so we’ve had a month to get back. To come away with a medal is special and this is even more so."

Mew Jensen told of the emotional reaction from her family to the bronze - and her mother's surprise television appearance.

"There was a lot of crying. Our mums got interviewed by accident, which was really cool. I think the interviewers just thought they were GB fans, and they said: We're the mothers.

"We've got such an incredible cohort of divers, we've no doubt we can wrap up more medals over the next few days and we’re looking forward to ing them."

The diving duo have been speaking to BBC Breakfast this morning, on an extra special day for Yasmin Harper, who turns 24 today.

"Honestly, I couldn't ask for much more. It's been a really good 24 hours so I am really pleased," said Harper.

On winning the bronze medal: "I think this one feels really incredible for us. To be the first divers out there on the first day and to put such a good performance out there, we feel really proud of that."

On the emotions of winning: "That one wasn't smooth sailing for us but it really shows that if we put in our best efforts right until the end then things can go our way. When we were waiting there to see the result, whether we were going to be third or fourth, it was a lot of tension and a little bit of stress but the outcome came out the best it could so we are really pleased."

On the matching nails with synchro partner Scarlett Mew Jensen: "I'm the nail artist. About a year ago we started doing matching nails at a World Championships. Every time we do synchro at a competition, we always have to be matching to dive at our best."

On how good the Team GB diving team is: "We have really got one of the strongest diving teams that GB has had, maybe ever even. It's really great to be part of that and really excited to see what the others can do."

Divers Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen won Team GB's first medal on the opening day of the Olympics since 2004 with a dramatic bronze in the women's synchronised 3m springboard in Paris.

The pair were in tears at the end of the competition as they snatched Britain’s first female diving medal at an Olympics for 64 years behind China and the United States.

Let's have a recap of yesterday's talking points.

Defender Gareth Furlong scored twice as Great Britain's men started their bid for Olympic hockey gold with a commanding 4-0 win over Spain in Pool A.

Nick Park poached the ball off a Spanish player, beat a covering defender and then calmly lifted the ball over goalkeeper Luis Calzado to put Britain ahead in the first quarter.

Furlong, who only made his British debut in February, doubled the lead at the start of the second quarter, slamming the ball through Calzado’s legs from a penalty corner.

Furlong made the game safe in the final quarter with another powerful strike from a penalty corner, before Rupert Shipperley pounced to force home Britain's fourth.

Britain, captained by Northern Ireland's David Ames, are aiming to secure a first Olympic medal since winning gold in 1988.

Sunday's first training session for triathletes has been cancelled because of concerns over water quality in the River Seine.

The Seine was declared clean enough for swimming in tests earlier this month, but the recent heavy rain means untreated sewage can be washed into the river.

Organisers say they are confident water quality will improve enough for the triathlon to take place as scheduled on Tuesday, with drier weather forecast over the next few days.

"Paris 2024 and World Triathlon reiterate that the priority is the health of the athletes. The analysis carried out yesterday in the Seine showed water quality levels that do not present sufficient guarantees to allow the event to take place," read a statement.

The river's water quality was one of the big concerns in the build-up to the Games. Swimming in the Seine was banned for a century because of the water quality, with tests in June still showing levels of E.coli above the upper limits imposed by sports federations

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and Paris 2024 chief organiser Tony Estanguet swam in the Seine on July 17 to show the water was clean enough for Olympic events.

There's plenty of Team GB interest to keep an eye on throughout day two (all times BST):

• Helen Glover, an Olympic rowing champion in 2012 and 2016, is back for her fourth Olympics. This time she is in the women’s four alongside returning Olympian Rebecca Shorten and debutants Esme Booth and Sam Redgrave (no relation to Sir Steve). The rowing begins at 08:00, with the women’s four heats from 11:30.
• In gymnastics, it is the women's turn to head through qualifying. Britain are again in the first subdivision at 08:30.

• Penny Healey and Bryony Pitman are competing in the archery, with the event beginning at 08:30 and the gold-medal match at 16:11.
• Eventing heads into its second day, the cross-country, from 09:30.
• Evie Richards, the 2021 world champion, features in the women’s cross-country mountain bike event from 13:10.
• In women’s hockey, Team GB begin their campaign against Spain at 12:15. GB beat Spain in a quarter-final shootout in Tokyo before going on to win bronze. GB men play their second group game against South Africa 19:15.
• Chelsie Giles is competing in the women's judo -52kg class, with the women's medal contests beginning at 16:49.
• Andy Murray is competing in the men's doubles alongside Dan Evans in what could be his final ever match. Murray and Evans are fifth on Suzanne Lenglen, which is likely to be around 17:00. Evans is also in singles action earlier in the day, along with Cameron Norrie, Katie Boulter and Jack Draper.

• Team GB face Ireland in the opening group game of the rugby sevens at 14:30. Ireland go on to play South Africa at 18:00, while GB play Australia at 18:30.
• Kimberley Woods will line up for GB in canoe slalom's K1 event starting 14:30,with the final at 16:45.

• Adam Peaty will challenge for a third consecutive men's 100m breaststroke Olympic title at 20:44

Great Britain recorded their best start to an Olympic Games in 44 years by winning two medals on day one in Paris.

Team GB duo Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen claimed a dramatic bronze in the women's synchronised 3m springboard, before Anna Henderson rode to silver in the women's time trial cycling on Saturday.
