The opportunity to lead one of England's historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime. Sharing that experience with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget." - Angelos "Ange" Postecoglou

We are a joke of a club. What a Spursy decision to sack him. How the board can say you have to take emotion away from this decision. FOOTBALL IS BUILT ON EMOTION!! IT'S THE REASON WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL.. What an utter joke.

  5. 'It's an insane decision to sack Postecoglou'published at 19:24 British Summer Time 6 June

Rosa Anderson, from the Hometown Glory podcast, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Spurs sacking Ange Postecoglou: "I am so devastated by this decision and disgusted.

"People can come up with all the reasons but the fact is, this wasn’t a League Cup. This is possibly the third-biggest trophy he could have won us. Biggest trophy in 40 years and he delivered it to us.

"For me, it’s an insane decision. The man who brings you your greatest victory, the most emotional night, the incredible highs, and then you think you can give him his P45">"Who’s going to come now? They’re moving the parameters all the time. So why would someone us? I’m sure there will be stupid enough, good luck to them."

Yet for many, Ange Postecoglou delivering on his promise to guide them towards a first trophy in 17 years meant that he deserved a chance to deliver again in a third season.

And their ire has this evening been turned towards the Spurs owners and chairman...

  7. Not always a match made in heaven - Postecoglou and Spurs fanspublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 6 June

While the sentiment of Tottenham ers who have ed us today has been overwhelmingly in of Ange Postecoglou, the Australian has had his fair share of criticism from fans during the course of what has been a tumultuous second season.

There was an exchange with an angry er after defeat by Fulham, another similar back and forth happened after defeat at home to Leicester and Postecoglou confronted the away end after they criticised players after losing at Bournemouth in December.

He also cupped his ear in what looked to be a defiant gesture towards Tottenham ers in a defeat to Chelsea, although the Australian later said he simply wanted to hear their cheers.

  8. I’ll always be grateful for the way you led us - Pedro Porropublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 6 June

We have been keeping an eye on the social media channels for a response from any Tottenham players.

Spain full-back Pedro Porro is the first, as far as we can see, to comment.

    He wrote on Instagram, external:

"Thank you for everything, boss. For mentoring me early on, helping me settle into the club, and trusting me out on the pitch.

"I’ll always be grateful for the way you led us, defended us, and kept us going through all the highs and lows.

"Above everything, you gave us one of the greatest moments in the club’s history and for that, you’ll always be celebrated.

"Wishing you all the very best, boss."

  9. Have Tottenham made the right decision in sacking Postecoglou?published at 19:11 British Summer Time 6 June

The messages we are getting from Tottenham ers seem to be of one voice at the moment.

With that in mind, it seems to be the right time to conduct a show of thumbs:

Do you believe the Spurs board have made the correct decision in sacking Ange Postecoglou?

Thumbs up for yes, down for no.

I can’t believe Levy sacked Ange. How do you sack a manager who had to accept losing Harry Kane, only being able to recruit young inexperienced players or failed loanees, half of the squad being unavailable through injury through most of the season, then having won a major European trophy. No vision, no future.

    Stan

Absolutely disgraceful from Spurs. Ange has only gone and won Spurs' only silverware in two decades and they sack him. I hope karma comes along and relegates them.

  11. 'It is sometimes not enough to win a trophy'published at 19:03 British Summer Time 6 June

    Thomas TuchelImage source, Getty Images

Talking about trophies, here's England manager Thomas Tuchel on Tottenham's sacking of Ange Postecoglou:

"It just shows you that it is not only about titles, you can survive seasons without titles if your connection, the and the belief and the trust between the coach and the club is strong then you can overcome seasons without titles.

"If there is slight disbelief, if there are concerns, if the trust is not there anymore, obviously then it is sometimes not even enough to win a trophy after so many years.

"I have biggest respect for him. He's a huge character, he brought a trophy, he said he will deliver in the second year and he did.

"But this is part of the job, we are responsible for the results and we are responsible for the development of the team so, whether we like it or not, sometimes it is us who has to take the full responsibility."

  12. New Spurs boss could win silverware instantlypublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 6 June

It took Ange Postecoglou two seasons, but he eventually won a trophy in his 101st and final competitive game in charge.

There was a chance he could have made it two trophies in two competitive games as Tottenham's next is in the Uefa Super Cup against Paris St-Germain.

That means whoever does become the next Tottenham manager, they will have the chance to win a trophy in their first game in charge.

Spurs will face PSG in the Italian city of Udine on 13 August.

The one-off tie pits the winners of the Champions League against the Europa League winners.

Luis Enrique's PSG thrashed Inter 5-0 in the Champions League final while Spurs overcame Manchester United 1-0 in an all-Premier League final in the Europa League in Bilbao.

Manchester City were the most recent English side to win the Super Cup while Chelsea won it in 2021 and Liverpool triumphed two years earlier.

Spurs will face Arsenal in a friendly in Hong Kong on 31 July before facing Newcastle United in South Korea. They will then face Bayern Munich in a friendly on 7 August, almost a week before the Super Cup.

  14. Who could replace Postecoglou at Tottenham?published at 18:50 British Summer Time 6 June

It's always a case of 'the king is dead, long live the king' in football.

As promised, here's a rundown about who could be the next manager to take the Tottenham hot seat:

    Thomas Frank, Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas FrankImage source, Getty Images

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has been tipped as a leading contender to replace Postecoglou. The Danish manager, 51, has been in charge of the Bees since 2018, guiding them to the Premier League at the end of the 2019-20 and keeping them there since.

    Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth

Andoni Iraola replaced Gary O’Neil as the Bournemouth manager in the summer of 2023 and has been a resounding success at the Cherries. Bournemouth finished 13th in 2023-24 with 13 wins before finishing even higher, in ninth place, in the recently concluded campaign.

    Marco Silva, Fulham

Marco Silva has managed Hull City, Watford, Everton and Fulham in England and has been in charge of the Cottagers since 2021. His Fulham side were contenders for European football this season before eventually finishing 11th and have reached the FA Cup quarter-finals during the past two seasons.

    Oliver Glasner, Crystal Palace

Oliver Glasner will be in demand this summer after helping Crystal Palace win their first major trophy - beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final last month. The former Eintracht Frankfurt boss, who won the Europa League with the Bundesliga side, was linked with a move to Tottenham in 2023.

    Mauricio Pochettino, United States

Could Mauricio Pochettino be on his way back to Tottenham? Currently the manager of the United States preparing for a home World Cup, the Argentine made Spurs a regular top-four side and also guided them to the Champions League final in 2019, only to be sacked later in the year.

  15. 'I feel for them' - Tuchel on Postecogloupublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 6 June

While Adwaidh sorts that, Melissa is busy transcribing England manager Thomas Tuchel's news conference.

He has spoken about Ange Postecoglou's sacking, saying generally about managers who lose their job: "I feel for them, I have been in that spot and it's horrible."

Tuchel won the Champions League as Chelsea manager. He was sacked the following year, 100 days after the club's then new owners took charge.

    More to follow.

I can't imagine it'll take long for another club to hire Ange, and they'll be lucky to have him!

Shocking decision, can't wait to see Ange lift silverware again while Tottenham fight for 7th place again. Good riddance to them Ange.

    Anon

Tottenham are a ridiculous club. If the wheels fall off then Ange will be vindicated. This decision confirms that football is a business first and foremost. Tottenham crunched the numbers and would prefer Champions League qualification to trophies. It's not guaranteed with Thomas Frank or whoever else is mooted to take over.

  18. Levy has 'not read the room at all'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 6 June

Alfie Watts and Owen Wood attends the BAFTA Television AwardsImage source, Getty Images

Tottenham fan Alfie Watts, who won BBC's Race Across the World in 2024, says he is "fuming" after Spurs sacked manager Ange Postecoglou.

"I’m fuming. I can’t really get my head around it. I think it’s a baffling decision," Watts told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I understand the domestic form was awful, and I understand that it wasn’t acceptable for a manager to continue after that.

"But, he had the backing of the fans, he had the backing of the players and he had Champions League football.

"For any manager at Tottenham, it should be an absolute nailed on to start the second [means third season] season.

"We’re going to have a season of what-ifs. What we should have done was given him the first 10 games of the season, let him build his team again and then, if the form continued, he wouldn’t have anywhere to go.

"Again, Daniel Levy has put himself in a position where he makes his position look untenable. He’s not read the room at all."
