Relegated Crystal Palace twice fought from a goal down to claim a point against second-bottom Leicester City in a frantic finale.

Second-half substitute Abbie Larkin rescued a point for the Women's Super League's rock-bottom side with a 98th-minute equaliser.

Just minutes earlier Foxes substitute Shannon O'Brien's curling, long-range strike looked to have claimed a first away win of the season for the visitors, but as the game became stretched Larkin fired home to earn a share of the points.

It was a game short on quality before Foxes forward Hlin Eiriksdottir stepped up to provide a moment of inspiration on the stroke of half-time.

She worked her way to the byeline and cut a back to Hannah Cain, who swept the ball home to put the visitors into a one goal lead into the break.

Leicester had controlled the home side's attacking threat well before Courtney Nevin's lunging tackle on Josie Green allowed Annabel Blanchard to equalise from the penalty spot.

Crystal Palace had ed almost twice as many shots as Leicester, as well as enjoying the lion's share of possession, but twice it seemed as though those efforts were to go unrewarded as they fell behind.

Nevertheless the Eagles battled back to avoid a 16th loss from 21 league games this season, showing resilience that has often been lacking in a maiden top-flight campaign to forget.

Meanwhile Leicester's long winless run away from home continues, as they become just the fourth side in WSL history - after Bristol City, Liverpool and Reading - to complete a full 22-game WSL season without a victory on the road.

This past week Crystal Palace boss Leif Smerud asked his side to learn how to "grow from adversity" as they prepare to return to the second tier next season.

The players did exactly that on Sunday as they battled from behind twice.

Having grown into the game they received a body blow in the shape of Cain's opener on the stroke of half-time.

However the Eagles refused to simply lie down and accept a 16th defeat of the season.

They came out for the second half with a point to prove, enjoying the majority of possession and putting Leicester under extreme pressure.

This pressure told when they forced the Foxes into a mistake for the penalty, which Blanchard duly converted.

Then came another massive blow. O'Brien's long-range strike in the 94th minute would have been enough to deflate a team in the best of form.

But, having battled back from adversity once already, the Eagles lifted themselves again to level with moments left to play.

While a point will not change Crystal Palace's fortunes, it does offer hope that next season they can perhaps take the harsh lessons learned in the top flight and get moving in an upward trajectory once again.
