Hull City and Millwall are still without a win in the Championship after playing out a disappointing goalless draw at the MKM Stadium.

It was a third straight draw for new Tigers head coach Tim Walter, but it was a first point for Millwall who began the season with two narrow defeats.

Captain Jake Cooper headed Millwall’s best chance straight at home goalkeeper Ivor Pandur in the first period, while new Hull striker Chris Bedia had an overhead kick tipped over in the second half by Lukas Jensen.

However, there was no breakthrough as draw specialists Hull shared the points for the seventh time in their last nine home games, while the result makes it Millwall’s worst start to a season for seven years.

There was nothing like the drama of the Lions’ previous games where they were on the wrong end of five and seven-goal thrillers to Watford and Bristol City respectively, but they will at least head back to south London with something to build on.

The game came to life in the middle of the first half as Croatian Pandur denied George Saville after the Northern Ireland midfielder had burst into the area.

Then at the other end, on-loan Chelsea striker Mason Burstow, making his first start for Hull, saw his effort well smothered by Jensen.

The rebound fell to Regan Slater, whose follow-up shot was blocked by Lions skipper Cooper prompting home players and fans to appeal for handball, but referee David Webb gave nothing.

The best chance of the opening period actually fell to Cooper, but he could only direct his header straight at Pandur from Joe Bryan’s cross.

Both sides turned to the bench to try to make the difference in the second half and the Tigers’ new recruit, Bedia, an Ivorian striker brought in on loan from Union Berlin, saw his overhead kick dealt with by Jensen.

But there was no goal and both sides must wait seven days to try to get their first three points with Hull away to Leeds United, and Millwall welcoming Sheffield Wednesday to The Den next Saturday (both 15:00 BST).

Hull City head coach Tim Walter told BBC Radio Humberside:

"It was frustrating because we didn't score but I still see the willingness from the lads.

"They try to improve themselves and and implement my philosophy - it's all you can have as a gaffer.

"It was a difficult game for us because they played long balls from all over the pitch so you have a lot of interruptions.

"You have to focus all the time and it's not easy, but the lads did a good job."

Millwall head coach Neil Harris told BBC Radio London:

"Hull had a lot of the ball and showed their capabilities of keeping possession without always really hurting us.

"We felt we had attributes that would cause them real problems and the fact we've come off disappointed that we've not won is telling really, especially in the first half where we had three or four clear-cut opportunities and we should have scored.

"Ultimately I'm really pleased for us to get a point and keep a clean sheet."
