Australia captain Mitchell Marsh, who was rested today: "They were on track for a big total. I thought the way the bowling attack pulled them back was a fantastic effort.

"Five one-dayers in 12 days is always going to be a challenge. I thought we were able to field really good XIs, but there were a lot of moving parts, we had some experienced players leading the way.

"Trophies are really hard to win, we build towards those and we look forward to [the ICC Champions Trophy in] Pakistan in a few months time."

On the number of all-rounders in their line-up: "I think that's been a trend in all white ball cricket. More bowling options, the more changes and not letting batters settle, long may it continue.

Australia's Travis Head on taking four wickets with the ball: "It's always nice to get the job done for the team. I think it depends on where I am bowling as well, but we've got a lot of options with the ball and I am more than happy to help when I am needed."

About his batting form: "I am pleased, especially getting off to the start I did. I also started well today and felt like I had a good opportunity to move really well. I would have liked to add one more big score to that, but winning the series was the most important thing and we managed to do that today.

"I've tried to stay relaxed and consistent as much as I can, and I am really enjoying this environment we have in this team."

England captain Harry Brook - and ODI player of the summer: "It was nice to get on the board and get some runs nad contribute to some wins.

"I haven't played too much ODI cricket so it is nice to contribute to some wins and finally try and get the tempo of ODI cricket.

"It's not just the present now, it is long-term. We are trying to build towards those bigger competitions. It is a new brand of cricket and we're trying to be positive and we did that and were exciting throughout the series.

"Ducky [Ben Duckett] has done unbelievably and Jamie Smith to take Zampa down, he hasn't got the runs he's wanted but he's put a lot of pressure on Zampa. The four seamers have put a lot of pressure on their top-order. We haven't got the wickets we've wanted in the powerplay but outside of that we've done really well."

On captaincy: "It has been good. It's something I might think about trying to do in the future but at the moment I'll just sit back and let Jos [Buttler] do it."

Well, that post was the equivalent of swapping the position of the bails - the match has been abandoned.

Australia win by 49 runs via the DLS method, having been on 165-2 and way ahead of the par score when the second innings was rained off after 20.4 overs.

That results means Australia win the five-match ODI series 3-2, having won the first two games of the series, then lost the next two.

For those wondering, we didn't hear anything from that 17:10 pitch inspection and haven't had any word of another one being scheduled.

I am, to put it mildly, somewhat baffled that this match hasn't been called off yet.

England were 202-2 with one ball to go until the half way mark.

Harry Brook was dismissed from that delivery, and England were ultimately bowled out for 309 in the final over of the innings.

Having ed the 20-over mark in the second innings, we will for the first time in five ODIs at Bristol have a result.

The last ODI that was concluded here was between Australia and Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup. The next two games during that World Cup were completely abandoned and since then England have played Sri Lanka and Ireland here without a result.

For those who haven't been keeping their eyes on various rain radars, from this point in the day a mighty splodge of rain moves over Bristol, and won't move for a number of hours.

The rain doesn't actually look too heavy presently, but it's grey out there and further covers are still being brought onto the field.

I think it was England throwing away their position at 202-2 that really lost them this game. That Australian assault at the beginning of the England bowling innings has definitely gone a long way in deciding who will win it, but when England look back at where they lost, it will be not making the most of the platform that Harry Brook and Ben Duckett had given them with the bat.
