Tottenham Hotspur have ended the club's 17-year-wait for a trophy by winning the Europa League trophy.

They faced fellow Premier League team Manchester United in the final at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao in Spain.

Striker Brennan Johnson scored the only goal of the game as Spurs beat Manchester United 1-0.

The win doesn't mean Tottenham just get their hands on a trophy, they also get something else very important too - a spot in next season's Champions League.

In the Premier League, it has been a disappointing season for both teams.

In fact, the two English-clubs went into the final as the two lowest placed teams to ever play in a European final.

However in this Europa League competition Manchester United were unbeaten going into the final, whereas Spurs had lost twice.

But the final is just one game and United just couldn't find an answer to Brennan Johnson's first half goal.

Manchester United came very close to getting an equaliser through their striker Rasmus Hojlund.

His header went past the keeper, but was cleared off the line by Micky van de Ven midway through the second half.

In September, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou said: "I always win things in my second year".

After sticking to that promise by guiding the club to the victory, in his second year in charge, he said:

"I'm a winner. Win is what I do most."
