A fire at a 5G mast in west Belfast was deliberate, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has said.

A report of a fire in Dunmurry was made at about 14:40 BST on Saturday.

Police said the fire, at the Springbank Industrial Estate, was being treated as deliberate ignition.

The Northern Ireland Fire Service (NIFRS) attended and extinguished the blaze.

Paul Maskey says it is "ludicrous and absolutely nonsensical" behaviour

There have been a series of arson attacks on 5G masts in west Belfast, with the fire service recording 13 incidents between January 2023 and December 2024.

The Sinn Féin MP for the area said: "I want to strongly condemn the latest suspected arson attack".

Paul Maskey said it was "ludicrous and absolutely nonsensical".

"Just a few weeks ago, Sinn Féin published the results of a survey highlighting widespread mobile signal black spots across the west of the city — some of which are due to damage caused to masts," he added.

"Those responsible for this disgraceful vandalism must be brought to justice."
