Simple ballet moves to try at home

Warm up, stretch out and get ready for the CBeebies Ballet Little Red Riding Hood with Nigel and the Woodland Keepers.

Toe taps

Stretch your leg out in front of you, point your toes and tap them on the floor.

Try counting out loud and tap your toes four times with each foot. If it is tricky to balance on one foot, you can use the side of the sofa or a chair as a ballet barre.

Raise your arms

Raise your arms up into the air with your arms slightly rounded, in an open circle. Your hands don’t touch each other and your palms should face down. This is called 5th position with your arms.

While in this position, can you twirl around? That’s just like a dance move called a pirouette.

Bend and jump

Turn your feet out, like penguins, and then bend your knees; this is called a plié.

You can then jump back up, so your legs are straight and bend them as you land - this is called a sauté.

Have fun

in with your little one and copy their moves. They will love it and it will boost their self-confidence. , no one is going to be judging your ballet skills, so just have fun.
